BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. – A 16-year-old student from Niwot High School was arrested Thursday afternoon for reportedly making a bomb threat to the school Tuesday morning.

The school was evacuated after officials received reports through the Safe2Tell system of a bomb threat. While it wasn’t clear if the threat was considered credible, the campus was evacuated “out of an abundance of caution,” according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

A search of the school turned up no suspicious devices, but the sheriff’s office, in conjunction with the St. Vrain Valley School District, worked to identify which "school-owned device” the bomb threat originated from, deputies said in a news release Thursday evening.

The suspect, a student at the school who was only identified as a 16-year-old, was arrested for making the bomb threat and charged with one count of a false report to explosives – a Class 6 felony; one count of interference with an educated institution – a Class 1 misdemeanor; and false reporting to authorities, a Class 3 misdemeanor.

A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said the teen was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
