13-year-old boy dies after crash in Loveland; Suspected DUI driver arrested

LOVELAND, Colo. – A man has been arrested on suspicion of DUI following a crash that left a 13-year-old boy dead in Loveland.

The crash was reported Friday at around 9:32 p.m. near the intersection of Wilson Avenue and W. 43rd  Street.

Police said the crash involved the 13-year-old boy and the driver of a 2005 Ford F150 pickup truck.

The boy, who was identified as Gavin Myers, was immediately taken to the hospital with serious injuries but was pronounced dead Saturday.

The coroner said Sunday Myers died of multiple blunt force injuries. His manner of death was ruled an accident.

Roy Swanson, 47, of Loveland, was arrested by police, who said alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash.

Swanson is being held on several charges including vehicular homicide, careless driving resulting in death, and driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

It’s unclear if the suspect was assigned an attorney or a public defender.
