WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — For most people, wearing a mask has become a part of everyday life. Now in Wheat Ridge, it's gone from recommended to required.
After picking up groceries at a Safeway in Wheat Ridge, Mark Felber said he agrees with the new mandate.
"Very sensible. It’s been pretty well demonstrated that masks will prevent or reduce the odds of a person spreading his disease to other people," Felber said.
As of Monday, Wheat Ridge’s decision means anyone going inside an essential business, like a grocery store, must wear a face mask. People who don’t could face a misdemeanor charge under Section 6 of Resolution No. 16, Series of 2020 of the city's public health order.
The city says this order is intended to help keep employees, customers and people who live in the city safe from COVID-19.
It's a decision Governor Jared Polis agrees with.
"Wearing masks is a very simple act that we all need to do and I’m very supportive of Wheat Ridge. If Denver moves that way in public places, that doesn’t mean when you’re doing yard work in your own yard you wear a mask but when you’re out on a trail that others are on or you go to the grocery store or any store that begins to open in early May."
Wheat Ridge’s order is set to run until May 30.
