DENVER – Vail Resorts is offering up money off a pass for next year for season passholders who had their seasons cut short this year by the COVID-19 outbreak, the company said Monday.

Some passholders had been upset that Vail Resorts had previously not offered any refunds for passholders when Vail Resorts closed its Colorado and North American resorts in March and even filed class-action lawsuits to try to recoup some of their money.

But the company’s CEO said Monday that it would be offering at least 20% off passes for the 2020-21 season to people who had Epic Passes. If people used their pass less than five days this season, they could see higher discounts – up to 80% off next year’s pass for a person who did not use their pass once this season.

Vail Resorts said it would also be offering credits based on the number of unused days on people’s Epic Day Passes, Edge Cards and other products.

Those credits will be available for passholders who buy passes for next year by Sept. 7, the company said. Spring sales discounts will also remain in effect to Sept. 7, and the $49 deposit for next year’s pass will be extended “for the next few months,” the company said.

It will also make Epic Coverage – pass insurance – free to all passholders.

“Epic Coverage provides refunds in the unlikely event of certain resort closures (i.e. for COVID-19), giving pass holders a refund for any portion of the season that is lost,” the resort said in a statement.

Earlier this month, Alterra Mountain Co. announced that Ikon Pass holders can get up to $200 back on a pass for next season, a payment plan with zero interest and an “Adventure Assurance” plan that offers 2020-21 passholders the option to defer that pass to 2021-22.
