LITTLETON, Colo. — All schools in the Littleton Public School district will be switching to remote learning next week, according to LPS Superintendent Brian Ewert in a letter emailed to parents Wednesday.
The rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in Arapahoe County has reached the “tipping point in the system where in-person learning is no longer feasible,” Ewert wrote.
He detailed other factors that brought the district to this decision, including a continued substitute shortage and the county reverting to Level Orange - High Risk on the state’s COVID-19 dial.
“After consulting with school and district leaders and the LPS Board of Education, and taking all of the above factors into consideration, I made the decision to move all LPS schools and programs to a temporary remote learning model beginning next week, possibly for the rest of the fall semester,” Ewert wrote.
Students in all grades will begin online learning starting Tuesday, and it will likely continue through Dec. 18, the end of the fall semester. There will be no classes Monday for LPS students while teachers prepare for temporary remote learning.
The district is planning to students to the classroom in January, the letter states. Free meals will continue to be provided for all students.
