DENVER — A brand new Denver Health medical center will soon be helping administer more COVID-19 vaccines to those who are eligible.
The Outpatient Medical Center opened its doors for this first time this week. It has more than 200 exam rooms and eight operating rooms. The center features more than 30 medical services, according to officials.
Wade Ebersole, Denver Health chief administrative officer, said that when the need for vaccines became prominent, officials decided to use the Outpatient Medical Center.
"Right now, one of the most important things that we can do is deliver timely, accessible access to vaccines and so there's a real opportunity right now as our building comes on that we can re-purpose some of those spaces to administer and deliver vaccinations," he said.
Once more vaccines become available, they will be administered at the center during evenings and weekends, according to officials.
The center is currently allowing eligible people to register to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, according to state guidelines.
"Right now, we are obviously only extending the opportunity to those who meet the eligibility requirements," Ebersole said.
