Bailey woman helping her mountain community get groceries to protect those at risk from COVID-19

BAILEY, Colo. -- Cincerri Fleetwood loves her horses and her mountain community of Bailey where social distancing is actually one of the reasons they live here.

“That’s what’s really great about the mountain communities out here,” she said.

But because of that distance, it makes it tougher to get to places like the grocery store.

“We only have two grocery stores. The closest grocery store from Bailey is 20 miles away and it’s King Soopers and Safeway,” she added.

So, the retired registered nurse came up with a plan to help those who might be at risk from COVID-19 and who can't simply get to a grocery store. She’s helping coordinate volunteers to pick up groceries for those in neighboring communities.

Currently, she has 36 volunteers helping deliver groceries, some with 4-wheel drives, to make sure they can handle the ever changing mountain conditions.

Fleetwood said she has the people receiving the groceries just order them online from the store and pay for it right there and then.

“(They) contact me after they have the delivery date and time and usually I can match them up with a volunteer within 10 minutes,” she said.

Fairly simple... if all it took was a couple of posts on social media.

“But a lot of people aren’t on Facebook and Nextoor, but I think they do watch the news and so I’m hoping the word will get out there,” she said.

Part of the plan here is to rally others in the community to get involved.

“We’re Bailey strong and we will help each other whenever the call goes out for help,” she said.
