LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- It started with a Contact7 complaint about Elcar Fence. Multiple viewers said Elcar was taking down payments, but not showing up to do the work.

Now, 11 months after Russell and Audrey Rooney put in a down payment with Elcar, they finally have a fence. The fence is courtesy of another local business that stepped up to help after watching the story on Denver7.

“I think it’s just awesome,” Audrey said.

"It’s just about taking care of our community,” said Joshua Johnson, general manager of Split Rail Fence.

Split Rail is the company putting up the fence for the Rooney family.

"When I went to my president with this story, he didn't think twice," Johnson said. “Anything we can do to help. If we have the means to - we will."

The Rooney’s initially put $1,250 down with Elcar.

"They cashed it right away," Audrey said.

That was back in August 2018.

“It’s pretty shady,” Audrey said. “They just stopped calling.”

Johnson says he doesn’t know what happened to Elcar, but he wants people to know there are still reputable fencing companies out there.

“We want to protect our name,” Johnson said. “We want to protect the industry. Anytime a fencing company talks about a deposit of more than 50 percent, you should stay away. Anything that sounds fishy is fishy.”

Contact7 has reached out to the owner of Elcar. He initially agreed to sit-down with Denver7, but he has now stopped returning our calls.
