ARVADA, Colo. — It didn’t take long for Contact7 to help an Arvada senior get her specialty orthopedic shoes back from an unresponsive shoe repair store she thought had closed. It also didn’t take long for a Denver7 viewer to step in to help even more.
“Those are the only shoes I can wear,” Nola Pflueger told Denver7 last week.
Pflueger’s only pair of shoes, her one of a kind specialty shoes, were at a Wheat Ridge shoe repair store. She had taken them in to get a new sole, but a week after they were supposed to be completed, she hadn’t been able to get them back.
“You’re stuck,” she said.
The same day that Contact7 ran her story, the store called her and said her shoes were fixed and available for pickup. Her husband retrieved them just minutes before the store closed that same day.
“Now I can go outside again,” Pflueger said, pointing to the new tread on the bottom of her brown SAS specialty shoes.
But there was one problem.
“I can’t wear them inside because the tread is so aggressive; if you try to walk on carpet, you can’t do it,” she said.
A Denver7 viewer heard about her struggles and the fact that she only had one pair of shoes. That viewer donated $200 to Nola, that Denver7 presented to her in the form of a gift card, that she can use at a specialty shoe store to buy herself a new indoor set of shoes.
“I just appreciate it very much,” she said with a smile. “Thank you.”
Nola said she plans on going shopping this week.
