JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. -- Construction on a sound wall near C-470 started nearly a year ago but it abruptly stopped after the concrete pillars and part of the wall went in.
"Do something or take them down because right now I just look at concrete pillars just suspended in nowhere," said Jason Pettner, a resident who has a clear view of the unfinished project from his backyard.
The Colorado Department of Transportation confirms that construction was halted on the project but a spokesperson said the wall will be built. According to CDOT, concerns raised by the public prompted their team to perform "additional analysis" on the wall's final design.
"So we're just waiting for them to get done," said Randal Dawdy.
Denver7 did a story about the wall when construction began in fall of 2017. Several residents were upset because it was going to block their view of Chatfield Reservoir and the mountains.
Now residents who are for and against the wall are upset with the unfinished state of the project.
"I don't think anybody wants to look at a 12 to 15-foot tall wall. It's not very appealing, but it is what it is. I just wish they would hurry up and get it done," said Dawdy.
CDOT pointed out that a majority of residents in the area voted yes on the noise reducing wall. A spokesperson could not say when it will be finished or when construction will re-start because a date hasn't been set yet.
