LONE TREE, Colo. — A Lone Tree family says their landlord has done nothing to remove mold that the family discovered in their rented home five months ago.
Scott Guilkey and his fiance Kacy Presba grew up in the same Lone Tree neighborhood they moved into two years ago.
They said it was supposed to be their dream home, but that changed almost immediately after they moved in.
Guilkey said a leaking pipe led to their basement flooding, damaging the walls and floors. He said it took Pathlight Property Management more than a year to hire a plumber to fix it.
"When we finally did get them to send a plumber out, the plumber opened up the walls; he fixed the leak and then just left everything and said, 'you've got a big mold problem,'" Guilkey said.
Guilkey said the company that runs the home did not send out anyone to inspect for mold. So, they hired a private company, and the inspector found two different kinds of mold in the basement.
He said everyone in the home has suffered health issues because of the mold and is worried about his four children.
"We just want to get the kids out," he said. "We just want to get them somewhere where they can breathe without getting sick."
Denver7 reached out to Pathlight Property Management and are waiting for a response.
