FORT LOGAN, Colo – Nicole Tillotson has the house on the block that everyone knows – the house with all the Christmas decorations.
This year, Tillotson had an idea to add something else in her yard for the holidays – a free little library.
Tillotson’s little library is on Rice Place and Quitman Street.
“We only had it in for two weeks,” Tillotson said. “We cycled through all the books. People kept picking them up and dropping one off. It was great.”
Tillotson said she got the idea by walking dogs around her neighborhood and saw one a few blocks away from her house.
“I just like bringing joy to my neighborhood,” Tillotson said. “And this is a way to help share that.”
However, about two weeks ago, a Grinch came into her neighborhood and stole all the books.
“It was completely wiped out when I came home,” Tillotson said. “To see that, it broke my heart. But I think it ended up being a good thing for our neighborhood.”
Tillotson said the books were stolen on Sunday, and by Monday the problem was solved.
“So I went on my NextDoor app and posted about all the books stolen,” Tillotson said. “Within a day I already had 28 different people willing to donate more books to the little library. And the library was filled. I think it brought the community together.”
Tillotson said there have been so many donations that she needs to build another little library.
“This is just something that’s good for the community,” Tillotson said about the little library. “And we want to keep it that way.”
