DENVER -- A renter at the Francis Heights Apartments in the Sloan's Lake neighborhood is demanding action after she says water leaked into her closet, soaked her clothes and made a hole in the ceiling.

Rita Johnson has lived in her studio for five years and says she dealt with three leaks, one last year and two within the past month.

On Thursday, maintenance stopped by to help mitigate the damage — a day after water soaked Rita’s clothes and carpet. She said she’s tired of the band-aid fixes and wants a real solution.

“Just fix the damn thing,” Johnson said. “I can’t afford to buy new clothes every time this happens.”

Johnson said she spent her morning doing laundry to salvage her clothes. When she asked the apartment management to help replace the clothes damaged by the first leak, she was deflected.

“They said Miss Johnson, that’s what they have renter’s insurance for; in other words, 'we can’t help you,'” Johnson said.

Contact7 asked to speak to a building manager, but no one could go on-camera. Lee Gagliardi, the assistant property manager, said someone would reach out. We have yet to hear back.
