AURORA, Colo. — Contact7 Gives enabled us to purchase more than $2,000 in toys on Thursday thanks to your generosity.
On Monday, we told you about a Toys for Tots shortage this year.
Denver7 viewers then stepped up in a major way, donating on their own and through Contact7 Gives.
It's a huge donation that is sure to bring smiles to a whole lot of Colorado kids come Christmas morning.
We took the $2,000 to Walmart off Tower Road and purchased the toys. While our crew was there, Walmart surprised us by donating an additional $500.
“It’s just really great to be a part of this,” said Katy Greer, co-manager of Walmart.
Our crew focused on purchasing gifts for kids aged 10 to 12, both girls and boys, because there’s a critical need for toys in that age range.
When we arrived with two car loads full of toys, we ran into Missi Hackman and her husband, who were also delivering toys.
“Last night we saw on the news that they were short toys for some of the kids,” Hackman said. “And we just had a really great year and felt like we needed to share that. I just can’t imagine a kid not experiencing that joy on Christmas.”
It's another example of the amazing community we all call home.
“This week we just saw how the community has come together,” said Tasha Gallegos, with Toys for Tots. “Our warehouse was going to be closed as of today because we weren’t able to provide to the community. Now – we plan to stay open through Sunday night at 8 p.m.”
