DENVER — A local grandmother who was paralyzed after a freak accident says a developer refused to build her family a house with modification for her wheelchair.
Nina Lindstrom fell off a ladder and suffered spinal injuries which paralyzed her from the waist down.
She wanted to build a brand new home that was wheelchair accessible instead of retrofitting an existing one.
They went to Century Communities in Weld County, and after going over their requests with the salesperson, they received a voice mail.
“Just got notice from my company that they at this time do not want to move forward with all of the ADA accommodations on this particular home," the voicemail said.
When those plans fell through the couple bought a home that’s far from accessible. She said she is now stuck in a house that she can’t even use.
The couple is suing the developer.
When Denver7 reached out Monday, a spokesperson for century Communities said that their legal counsel is reviewing the claims and they are taking the matter very seriously.
