CENTENNIAL, Colo. -- An unknown virus has placed a senior living facility on quarantine and seniors have been asked to remain in their rooms.
A spokesperson for Morningstar at Jordan said the quarantine was put in place following an outbreak of an unknown virus. She said the decision was made on Sunday after 11 residents became sick.
The spokesperson stressed the quarantine was just a precaution meant to protect the health of everyone in the community and said it was "nothing out of the ordinary."
"The only thing that we’ve been told is that there’s a lot of people sick and they wanted to not spread the germs and that’s all that we were told," said Donna Imhoff, an 85-year-old resident of the senior living facility.
Residents and their loved ones understand the quarantine is meant to protect them but are frustrated by what they believe is a lack of information.
A relative reached out to Contact7 hoping to get more information about the virus that caused the quarantine and she was also wondering how long residents would have to remain in their rooms.
"Well, we are paying rent and I think the residents should have the right to know exactly what’s going on," said Imoff.
A spokesperson for the facility said that January 2 was their first full day without any further outbreaks and they plan on returning to normal operations on January 3. She said they will be doing a deep cleaning to help ensure the safety of residents.
