AURORA, Colo. — Residents who live in a Southeast Aurora townhome complex say sewage backed into their homes on Thanksgiving, for the second time this year.
“I would say 2-3 inches,” townhome resident Michelle Santos told Denver7.
“You could smell it. You could smell it outside this morning,” townhome renter Shandie Harris added.
The residents said the backups into their basement drains started late Wednesday night and continued into Thursday. They claim their original calls for help to the complex were not being taken care of.
“We’ll see you on Friday because the holiday. We said no way, we’re not sitting in sewage water,” Santos said.
Once they contacted Denver7, a restoration company was out at the complex. By Thursday morning, the water was gone, but the problem wasn’t done with.
“HOA always says its taken care of. Yeah for today, but then it builds up again,” Santos said.
Santos and Harris say they dealt with the same problem back in March and are worried it will happen again.
“I know when it happened in March they didn’t pay for anything. We all had to pay for our own stuff,” Harris said.
“They won’t pay for it. They say whatever happens in the building is our problem,” Santos added.
Denver7 called the property management company for the Greenbriar townhomes, but a recording states their offices are closed through Monday.
“It’s Thanksgiving and definitely not how we want to spend it,” Harris said.
