DENVER — Twenty years ago, Columbine High School and the surrounding community was forever changed. But there are several non-profits that have taken root, trying turn their pain into something positive.

Here are ways you can help:

The Columbine Memorial Foundation
"The Columbine Memorial is designed to be a place of peace, comfort and reflection remembering all those who were touched by the events of April 20, 1999 at Columbine High School, those who were injured and those whose lives were taken that day."

The Rebels Project
"The Rebels Project seeks to embrace, support, and connect survivors of mass tragedy and trauma by creating a safe environment to share unique resources, experiences, and provide education surrounding the varying effects of mass trauma."

The Lauren Townsend Memorial Fund
"The non-profit was established by Lauren’s family to honor her love for learning and animals. The Fund awards grants to nonprofit organizations that focus on animal welfare or wildlife preservation."

Rachel’s Challenge
"For us it started when Rachel Joy Scott was the first person killed in the Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1999. But that was only the beginning of the story. After her death, many students that Rachel reached out to shared stories with the Scotts about the profound impact her simple acts of kindness had on their lives; even preventing one young man for taking his own life. They soon realized the transformational effect of Rachel’s story and started the non-profit organization that is Rachel's Challenge today."

Value Up
"The message of Walk a Mile is that everyone has value, and our mission is to raise the value of human life in schools across this nation."

The Frank DeAngelis Columbine High School Academic Foundation
"Established in 2009, the Frank DeAngelis Columbine High School Academic Foundation is a non-profit organization aiming to raise funds for educational purposes to support the interests of Columbine High School, its students, its staff, and its teachers."
