COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A man shot during a robbery managed to crawl away, but was found bleeding heavily nearby, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Witnesses said four armed and masked men went into Post Time, an off-track betting facility in Colorado Springs Friday night.
"The suspects were interrupted by an armed security guard working at the business," Colorado Springs Police said. "It was determined the guard fired two rounds from his handgun, one of which struck a suspect in the lower body."
That suspect fell, but managed to crawl away from the business and made it a short distance on Academy Blvd. before he collapsed in the grass, police said.
Investigators said the suspect was found bleeding heavily by a passerby.
The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Damien Lewis, underwent emergency surgery at a nearby hospital.
Police said Lewis will be charged with aggravated robbery.
