COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Hundreds of soldiers marched from Fort Carson to a soup kitchen Thursday with toys, food, clothes and books.
Operation Stryker Christmas is an annual event put on by the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.
Each year, the soldiers stuff rucksacks with donated toys, non-perishable food items, winter clothes, camping gear and books and march to the Marian House Soup Kitchen to deliver the items.
The soup kitchen opened in 1985. It serves meals to more than 600 people each day. Guests include struggling families, seniors on a fixed income, the working poor, veterans, people with disabilities, unsupported teens and the homeless.
This is the 7th year for Operation Stryker Christmas.
