PALMER LAKE — PALMER LAKE, Colo. — Buc-ee's has withdrawn its request to annex land for a new location off Interstate 25 and County Line Road in El Paso County, with plans to resubmit the bid.

In a letter to the Town of Palmer Lake, Monument Ridge West LLC said it will "resubmit modified applications in the near future, and will be in touch shortly on a proposed timeframe."

The proposed 74,000-square-foot convenience store sparked concern among nearby residents and business owners. More than 1,200 people signed a petition against it in less than 48 hours.

In January, several nonprofits filed a lawsuit against the Town of Palmer Lake, its mayor, and other city officials, alleging a multitude of violations, including improper land annexation agreements, restriction of free speech, and violation of open meeting laws for matters surrounding the development of the popular Texas-based chain/

Buc-ee's opened its first Colorado location in Johnstown in March 2024. The Palmer Lake location would have been the company's first location in southern Colorado.
