Most of us want to avoid a trip to the hospital. But 7Everyday Hero Tony Janezic goes there a couple times a week.
"It is nice to feel that you're doing something for somebody who can’t help themselves at the moment because they're in emergency mode," said Janezic.
Janezic volunteers in the emergency department at St. Anthony North Health Campus in Westminster.
"Well, it's pretty busy," he said. "There aren't many lulls. It's a very active day."
Throughout the day, Janezic is right there helping comfort patients and staff.
"His approach, his touch, his demeanor are wonderful," said Trena Berube, Clinical Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department. "Patients feel safe. They feel like they're going to be taken care of because of Tony."
Janezic even goes so far as follow-up with patients even after they have left the emergency department.
"He checks on them," Berube said. "He makes sure they see a familiar face and know that we do care, that we love you. And he just checks on everybody."
It is that compassion for others that makes Tony Janezic a perfect example of a 7Everyday Hero.
"Tony is very passionate — he is very passionate about people," said Berube.
"I love the people around me," Janezic said. "The staff is my family. They love me and I love them a lot."
