DENVER -- There is a school in Denver specifically designed to welcome children who are refugees or immigrants. It is called Place Bridge Academy.
"We are an usual school. We have 65 different languages at this school, and we are a magnet school for the refugee students," said Principal Brenda Kazin.
It takes patience to help students learn. And something a little extra if the students are new to this country and also have special needs.
Volunteer Ollie Morris is up to the task. She has a lifetime of experience to share.
"She's just calm. Nothing fazes her. She loves it in here. And she feels like part of our family," said teacher Lindsay Koch.
Ollie Morris, or Miss Ollie as the students and staff call her, has volunteered in Denver schools for a long time.
"Come April the first, 27 years," Morris said.
The last four years she has helped in the special education class at the Place Bridge Academy.
"It gives me something to do to be productive. I want to make a difference in somebody's life," Morris said.
No wonder Ollie Morris gives her time five days a week.
