DENVER -- If life is a song, 7Everyday Hero Mimi Levene has quite the tune to belt out.
She volunteers to sing with the Platt Park Chorus. The singers perform at area nursing homes for free.
"It is a wonderful feeling when they come. It makes us happy," said SueAnne, a resident at Alameda Manor Care.
Levene has been with the group since L.B.J. was president.
"I retired in 1966 and then I joined this group," Levene said.
That is more than a half a century of making people happy with song. And often the audience members at the retirement centers are younger than she is.
"I'm 101 and a half," Levene said.
Levene will turn 102 this year, and never misses a chance to sing.
"Just because I am old doesn't mean I don't want to do things," said Levene.
"I think what makes Mimi special is she knows every song. She does not read music, but boy can she carry a tune," said chorus member Alice.
"She is a joyful person and she is clever. She's very witty and she just makes us all have a good time," said chorus member Rachel.
"And she is our southern belle. She's from Mississippi," added chorus member Pat.
Levene doesn't see what all the fuss is about. She just enjoys music because it makes everyone happy.
"It makes other people feel good," Levene said.
