The Kroger Company, the parent company of King Soopers and City Market, is planning to hire 10,000 people in 2017.
The jobs are permanent positions in the supermarket divisions.
"Kroger's growth trajectory continues to create opportunities for our people to advance their careers – and to do that in a fun, team environment with great benefits," said Tim Massa, Kroger's group vice president of human resources and labor relations.
The Kroger Company said it hired more than 12,000 associates in 2016.
Kroger and its subsidiaries employ more than 443,000 associates at 2,796 stores in 35 states.
Kroger operates supermarkets under multiple names including Kroger, Ralphs, Dillons, Smith's, King Soopers, Fry's, QFC, City Market, Owen's, Jay C, Pay Less, Baker's, Gerbes, Harris Teeter, Pick N' Save, Copps, Metro Market, Mariano's, Food 4 Less and Foods Co.
