DENVER -- It's been a month since Amazon purchased the organic grocery store Whole Foods and lowered prices on some products.

But how much of a difference did the price drop make compared to local grocers?

Local grocery analyst Eva Fry looked at 26 organic items at Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, Safeway, Sprouts, Target and King Soopers.

Those items consist of fruits, vegetables, cereal, lunch meat, meat, milk and eggs.

King Soopers was the cheapest with a total of $84, and Whole Foods is still the highest coming in at $97.

"We compared all of those prices that decreased that we were able to compare across grocers, and Whole Foods is still about 15 percent higher than traditional grocers," Fry said.

Target came as the second cheapest followed by Sprouts, Safeway and Natural Grocers.

Fry said anything is possible with Whole Foods now that Amazon owns it, and prices may drop again.

"I think now with Amazon, and that full distribution capability through grocery delivery, I think that Whole Foods will have a lot more buying power with manufacturers and so they will be able to drop prices even further. Traditional retailers will have to be ready to respond," said Fry.
