Studio Sheds says more people are building sheds in their backyard for offices and storage space

DENVER -- In the backyard of a mid-century modern Englewood home, you’ll find a new trend.

"It’s a modern structure with an angled roof with cement board siding; very open, lots of windows," said Krista Peltzel, who bought a shed for her home not too long ago.

Some will say it’s only a shed, but for Krista Peltzel and her husband, it’s an extension of their home.

"The storage, that’s the thing I’m most excited about. When he started working from home in March that’s when I started to realize, 'we need another space,'" said Peltzel.

So, instead of undergoing a costly home expansion project, they decided to build a shed meant for storage and an office space for a fraction of the cost.

"I mean, at some point I would love a bigger kitchen because I love to cook, but we can totally put that on the back burner for now and be completely happy with where we are," said Peltzel.

Co-founder of Studio Sheds, Jeremey Nova, says before March, business was good but since then, they’ve seen unprecedented levels of demand for their sheds.

"People have been spending more time than ever in their homes and they realize that they do need more space, whether its — home offices obviously are really popular — or a place for kids to study, a place to workout," said Nova.

A similar quality to a home built from the ground up in a matter of months.

"I get to look out the windows and look at these beautiful trees out here and watch the squirrels run around," said Kit Peltzel.

When it comes time to one day return to the office, their space will continue to transform along with their needs.
