DENVER -- The last eight Albertsons in the Denver metro area are getting a new name and logo on Tuesday night.
Each store is being rebranded as a Safeway.
Albertsons and Safeway merged in 2015. While the Albertsons name and logo will still be used on about a dozen stores in Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Grand Junction and other places around Colorado, in the Denver metro area, all the of the Albertsons are being rebranded as Safeway.
"[The change] allows us to maximize our advertising," explained Safeway spokeswoman Kris Staaf.
The eight Albertsons changing names are in Aurora, Denver, Louisville, Littleton, Northglenn and Thornton.
Staaf said most of the eight stores have undergone, or are in the process of significant remodels.
"Additions have included flooring and fixtures, expanded product offerings and departments as well as exterior upgrades," Staaf said.
After the change, there will be 102 Safeway stores in Colorado and 10 Albertsons.
The company has 16 grocery brand names -- Safeway, Vons, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Carrs, Albertsons, ACME, Jewel-Osco, Lucky, Shaw’s, Star Market, Super Saver, United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos.
