DENVER -- A bill that aimed to rein in application fees and standardize the rental application process in Colorado won't make it to a full vote in the Senate.
The Senate State, Veterans, & Military Affairs Committee voted 3-2 on Wednesday to postpone indefinitely House Bill 18-1127.
The bill would have prohibited landlords from charging a fee for anything other than the cost of processing an application, such as running a background check. The landlord would then have to provide the applicant with an explanation of the expenses the fee will cover.
The bill also stated that landlords would be required to inform applicants of their selection criteria along with which criteria weren't met if an applicant is denied for a rental.
