‘I've been waiting on this day': Man saved by Colorado organ donor meets teen's mother

DENVER – A man from Illinois who was saved by a Colorado teen’s decision to donate his organs for the first time met the mother of the donor this past Friday.

Evan Spear was only 19-years-old when he was killed in a car crash in Pueblo two years ago.

Before his death, the teen became an organ, eye and tissue donor and his decision was able to save the life of Keith Stampley, a retired minister from Alton, Ill. Stampley received Spear’s live

This past Friday, Julie Spear, a Boulder resident, met Stampley for the first time and it was all captured on camera.

Spear will be participating in the 18th annual Donor Dash 5K on Sunday. The 5K is hosted by Donor Alliance, the federally designated nonprofit organization that facilitates organ and tissue donation in Colorado and most of Wyoming.
