Denver Botanic Gardens VFW Post 1's Glass Poppy Display

Posted

Today until November 11th in commemoration of the 100th WWI Anniversary and Veterans Day, Denver Botanic Gardens will display a special installation of 100 custom made glass poppies in remembrance of those who fought the war and honor the 1,290 Coloradans who died.

Inspired by Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London, these unique Colorado poppies were handcrafted by veterans and service members from Hot Shop Heroes; a healing program in collaboration between the Museum of Glass and the U.S. military’s Joint-Base Lewis McCord in Tacoma, Washington.

On the last day of the display active duty and veterans are invited for a free day at the gardens then the poppies will be available for purchase by the public as part of a fundraiser for VFW Post 1. All proceeds from the poppy sales will benefit the VFW Post 1's Veterans Arts Council, peer-to-peer program, Denver-area veterans in need, and the Post's building on Santa Fe Drive in the arts district.
