Joe Vaccarelli worked as a newspaper journalist for nearly a decade prior to joining the team at Denver7 in April 2020.
He started at what was then Mile High Newspapers in Golden as a copy editor and later a reporter working on four weekly papers in Jefferson County.
In late 2011, he moved to YourHub at the Denver Post where we spent nearly six years covering hyperlocal news in Denver and Jefferson County. He also covered the Denver Cutthroats of the Central Hockey League in 2013-14, writing stories that were found at the Post’s blog for the Colorado Avalanche.
In 2017, Joe moved to Grand Junction to cover business, health and, later the Grand Junction Regional Airport for The Daily Sentinel, the largest newspaper in western Colorado. While on the Western Slope, he earned multiple journalism awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Colorado Press Association.
Prior to embarking on his journalism career, Joe worked as a professional musician after graduating from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in music performance. He taught percussion ensembles and private lessons around the Denver metro area for more than 15 years. He also performed with both the Denver Broncos Stampede and Denver Nuggets Skyline drumlines during home games for the Broncos and Nuggets.
Joe has a journalism degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
