Birthday cake is delicious, but if you’ve ever been the one in charge of cutting the cake and handing out the slices, you know it can be a bit stressful to dish out. Somehow pieces end up too small or too big, or the icing falls off, or the cake starts to tumble over and you have a big, sticky mess on your hands.

Well, TikTok is here to save the day. There’s a new viral solution to the problematic issue with cake-cutting, and it’s so simple we can’t believe we never thought of this before. Best of all, you do not need a knife or a cake server … all you need is wine glasses!

TikTok user@theroseperiod shares a video of the cake-cutting hack in action, and it’s already garnered more than 1.6 million views and counting.

How cool is that? It’s also COVID-friendly because everyone can serve themselves instead of having the host’s fingers all over the cake. So, whenever we can finally gather safely again, this would be the perfect way to have everyone cut their cake and eat it too!

The TikTok trend has found a home on Twitter as well, as people are also uploading videos of themselves using nothing but wine glasses to divvy up their cake. You won’t even have too many plates to wash — just a handful of wine glasses! You still might need utensils to eat the cake, but at least it doesn’t make any more work.

Here’s a video from @fooduz showing the trick:

The videos of the cake-cutting technique are going viral, because there is just something so satisfying about watching the process. Some people are even running out to buy cakes just to try the trend themselves, like Twitter user @merilindir (Note: she uses a mild curse word):

People are loving this simple, elegant solution, and British rhythm and blues singer Odeal jokes that he is ready to dig in at the next opportunity.

Same. Same.
