Veronica Waldrop had the idea for years: A poem about a unicorn named Nuff, who showed young girls that they were "enough."

But it wasn't until the Louisiana mother of two received a terminal cancer diagnosis that she found time to work on the project. Days before she died, in 2017, she finished the poem. The main character, Nuff, had a broken horn, a band-aid and wore shorts with a tear in them.

"All of that was the message that she was leaving," her husband, Will Waldrop, said. "That imperfection is perfection and that you are beautifully and wonderfully made, just the way that God made you, and that's what she was trying to leave for our girls."

The poem was released as a children's book. This week, the project released an activity kit — on National Unicorn Day on Thursday — for parents and kids, who across the country are stuck at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

The kit includes coloring sheets, a maze, a words search and other activities aimed at sparking creativity and confidence

Parents can download the activity kit and learn more about the book at TheNuff.com. Watch our interview with Will in the video above.
