Every weekend, Denver7 compiles a list of some family friendly events you might enjoy.  It is Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end of summer, and time for some of the most anticipated events of the year.  Here are our picks for the 7 best things to do in Denver this weekend.  

Friday - Monday

A Taste of Colorado

What: An end-of-the-summer tradition.  Celebrate the state’s diverse cultural traditions and western heritage at this four day food festival, featuring more than 50 of Colorado’s favorite restaurants.  Visual and performing arts, educational programs, culinary demonstrations, and music headliners including Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Kenny Wayne Shepard Band and Blues Traveler will span five stages.  Plus, a Kid Zone complete with carnival rides, games and more, make attending this festival a must do.  

Where:  Civic Center Park, Colfax Avenue and Broadway, Downtown Denver, Colo.

When:  Friday: 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday: 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m.; and Monday: 10:30 a.m.-8 p.m.

Admission: Free (Tickets must be purchased for food, beverages and carnival rides)

Thunder in the Rockies Bike Rally

What: As the largest motorcycle rally in the Rocky Mountain Region, this four day event is packed with non-stop entertainment.  Motorcycle enthusiasts from across the country travel to picturesque Loveland, Colorado to take part in this Labor Day weekend tradition.  Whether you are a hardcore biker or just a weekend warriors, you will enjoy the live music from local and national bands, stunt bike demonstrations, a variety of competitions and more than 100 vendors.   

Where: Thunder Mountain Harley Davidson, 4250 Byrd Drive, Loveland, Colo.

When: Friday: 12 p.m.-8 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday: 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; and Monday: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Admission: Free (Some attractions will require ticketed admission.)

Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

What: The Rockies are back in town for a home stand against the D-backs.  Head to the ballpark this holiday weekend, grab a hot dog, and sit back to enjoy the ambiance of Coors Field. 

Where:  Coors Field, 2001 Blake Street, Denver, Colo.

When: Friday: 6:40 p.m.; Saturday: 6:10 p.m.; and Sunday: 2:10 p.m.

Boulder Creek Hometown Festival

What:  This unique community event is the perfect end to the summer season in downtown Boulder.  Featuring over 100 arts and crafts exhibitors, live music performances, a classic car and motorcycle show, a food court and beer garden, plus a kid’s area with carnival rides and more, make this a family-fun event you won’t want to miss. 

Where:  Boulder Municipal Building Lawn and Central Park Lawn, along Boulder Creek corridor between 13th and 10th Streets, Boulder, Colo.

FISE World Series Denver 2016

What: Get ready for some high-energy thrills and seemingly death-defying tricks as the top skateboarding and BMX professional and amateur athletes compete in the 3rd FISE World Series stopover.  Competition includes Skateboarding, BMX Flatland and BMX Freestyle Park contests, right in the heart of downtown Denver.

What:  Downtown for the Taste of Colorado on Saturday?  Pop into the Denver Art Museum and enjoy free admission with full access to the art collections and non-ticketed exhibitions.

Touch-A-Truck Event

What: Bring the kids to explore and climb on their favorite big rigs and meet some hometown heroes.  A fire engine, a sheriff’s car, RTD bus, a dump truck, and even a Zamboni are among the vehicles that will fascinate kids of all ages. Throw in a couple bounce houses and this will be a day the kids will remember for years.
