DENVER — Gubernatorial candidate Jared Polis has chosen a running mate.

Denver7 has confirmed that former State Rep. Dianne Primavera was tapped to join Polis on the Democratic ticket in the 2018 governor’s race.

The Broomfield representative served at the state Capitol for eight years before retiring and joining Susan G. Komen Colorado earlier this year as its new chief executive officer.

"Dianne Primavera is a four-time cancer survivor, patient advocate, native Coloradan, mom, and public servant. Her career has been defined by fighting for quality, affordable health care for every single Coloradan," read a press release from Polis' campaign following Monday's announcement.

Polis clinched his party’s nomination in the Colorado gubernatorial race in last Tuesday’s primaries and is facing Republican Walker Stapleton in the November contest.

Stapleton's campaign, which has yet to announce a pick for lieutenant governor, called Polis' announcement "rushed."
