Cameron Diaz has been opening up about being a mom. The 48-year-old gave birth to her first child more than a year ago, but Diaz and husband Benji Madden have been keeping quiet about her details.
Last year, the protective parents posted about Raddix on Instagram, sharing their joy but explaining that they don’t want to share much news about her on social media. The message stated:
“Happy New Year from the Maddens! We are so happy, blessed and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden,” Diaz wrote. “She has instantly captured our hearts and completed our family. While we are overjoyed to share this news, we also feel a strong inclination to protect our little one’s privacy. So we won’t be posting pictures or sharing any more details, other than the fact she is really, really cute!! Some would even say RAD ð From our family to all of yours, we’re sending our love and best wishes for a Happy New Year and Happy New Decade…”
According to US Weekly, the baby‘s full name is Raddix Chloe Wildflower Madden. She was born at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on December 30, 2019.
Although the new parents have been private about Raddix herself, Diaz has been happy to talk about her experience with motherhood. She told Entertainment Tonight last April that quarantine hasn’t changed her life much because being a mom to a newborn goes hand-in-hand with staying at home.
“I love being a mother. It’s the best, best, best part of my life,” she said. “I’m so grateful and so happy and it’s the best thing ever and I’m so lucky to do it with Benj and we’re having the best time. I’m thrilled. I can’t believe it.”
Rumors have swirled about Diaz’s journey to motherhood, as she is 47 years old. (Women’s fertility begins to seriously decline around age 37). Sources say she and Madden tried acupuncture, IVF, supplements and other fertility methods to help them become pregnant, ultimately using a surrogate. However, Diaz hasn’t spoken openly about this, which is totally understandable. Her medical history isn’t ours to know unless she cares to divulge, and clearly, the parents want to keep Raddix safe from the public eye as much as possible.
On an October 2020 episode of Naomi Campbell’s YouTube series No Filter, as reported by Mother.ly, Diaz opened up about being a mom later in life.
“Having a family when you’re young…it’s like anything when you’re young: You do it,” the actress said. “But when you’re my age and you decide to do it, it’s a real choice. You really have to work hard for it.”
She added jokingly, “The only pressure for me now is I have to live to be, like, 107, you know? No pressure!”
